Apple blossom-end rot due to Neonectria ditissima is initiated by infections at full flowering and incipient petal fall

چکیده

Neonectria ditissima is a major cause of blossom-end rot (eye rot, calyx-end rot) as pre-harvest fruit apple in Northwestern Europe. Artificial inoculation trees was undertaken at close intervals under natural conditions during flowering order to obtain higher-resolution definition the most susceptible phenological stage for infections by N. ditissima. Similar trials were conducted another fungus, Botrytis pseudocinerea. Results showed full bloom be infection cultivar ‘Pinova’, whereas with ‘Nicoter’ highest rates obtained petal fall, reflecting temporal differences flower development between one-year-old and older wood. Few observed beginning or about one week after fall when no petals left on flowers, knots enlarging. This finding shortens time-span compared previous knowledge. Floral inoculations conidia B. pseudocinerea unsuccessful. Options control integrated pest management include timing scab powdery mildew fungicide sprays bloom, canker pruning just ahead orchards strongly affected

Draft Genome Sequence of a European Isolate of the Apple Canker Pathogen Neonectria ditissima

The Sordariomycetes fungus Neonectria ditissima is a major pathogen of apples, causing canker on trees and fruit spoilage. We report here the draft genome sequence of a European strain isolated from cankerous tissue.

Is petal senescence due to sugar starvation?

Senescence occurs at every stage of plant development. Shriveling of the cotyledons in young plants and the seasonal recurrence of leaf yellowing are obvious examples. Similarly, after pollination, petals have fulfilled their biological role and become senescent. Despite this ubiquity, however, the molecular events that initiate senescence have thus far remained a mystery. Thimann et al. (1977)...

Incipient allochronic speciation due to non-selective assortative mating by flowering time, mutation and genetic drift.

We model the evolution of flowering time using a multilocus quantitative genetic model with non-selective assortative mating and mutation to investigate incipient allochronic speciation in a finite population. For quantitative characters with evolutionary parameters satisfying empirical observations and two approximate inequalities that we derived, disjunct clusters in the population flowering ...

Assessment of diversity and genetic relationships of Neonectria ditissima: the causal agent of fruit tree canker

BACKGROUND Neonectria ditissima is one of the most important fungal pathogens of apple trees, where it causes fruit tree canker. Information about the amount and partitioning of genetic variation of this fungus could be helpful for improving orchard management strategies and for breeding apple cultivars with high levels of genetically determined resistance. In this study single-spore Neonectria...
